Sweden-Spain Regional Business Forum
H.E. Per-Arne Hjelmborn, Ambassador of Sweden to Spain, and Samira Grylin-Allalou, Trade and Invest Commissioner to Spain, were pleased to welcome participants to the Spain-Sweden Regional Business Forum. The event brought together key actors from Sweden and the Basque Country to promote industrial innovation and sustainable transformation.
The forum highlighted opportunities for bilateral collaboration, strengthening business ties, and fostering a shared vision of sustainable, innovation-driven industry. The day included an interactive roundtable and visits to strategic projects in Bilbao, allowing participants to engage directly and explore innovative regional initiatives firsthand.
What does real collaboration for a sustainable future look like? We saw it firsthand in the Basque Country together with the members of the Sweden + Spain Green Alliance.
A big thank-you to Mikel Amundarain Leibar for introducing the Basque Hydrogen Corridor - an ambitious, cross-sector initiative driving decarbonization while strengthening industrial competitiveness. At the EIC, Asier Madariaga and Joseba Garcia Garaigordobil showed us how this living, evolving ecosystem enables members and projects to adapt and innovate in real time.
At the Port of Bilbao, Andima Ormaetxe Bengoa shared how 30% of the port is dedicated to energy projects, including a 10MW electrolyzer powering hydrogen and synthetic fuel production. At AIC, Raquel Piñan showcased a 20-year knowledge-transfer hub where mobility players collaborate to test AI, robotics, electronics, and software - all in one shared environment.
Finally, thank you to the Bizkaiko Foru Aldundia / Diputación Foral de Bizkaia - especially Estibaliz Arenzana Saenz de Valluerca, Karlos Landeta Gorosabe, and Ainhoa Xué Bartolomé Pérez - for your professionalism and warm hospitality.
